Batt Insulation

With many options to insulate your home, batt and roll insulation is very common since it is so easy to install. Batts are made out of fiberglass that are cut into sheets, and rolls are longer versions of batts. Both are able to fit right in the space between the wood frames.

Blown-in Insulation

During new creation, batt insulation—thick strips of spun fiberglass or a paper-primarily based product—is reduced to fit among wall studs and ceiling joists before the wallboard is put up to increase insulation values. Putting in batts in most current homes is rarely feasible, as drywall ought to be torn down and end up being a huge mess. Blown-in insulation can be brought to attics and partitions without the trouble. In addition, this type of insulation can also seal small gaps and spaces because it settles, filling those sneaky spots wherein cold air could otherwise seep in. Similarly to developing an insulating blanket, blown-in insulation helps lessen sound transfer between the outdoors and the indoors, so unwanted road noise will also be softened.

Spray Foam Insulation

Spray foam insulation, which is also known as foaming insulation, is a two-component liquid insulation material that insulates and air seals wherever it is applied. The material comes in  large 55 gallon drums – an iso and a resin. The liquids are kept separate until applied on the job site by a licensed spray foam installer. The two liquids travel up a heated hose to the spray gun where they are mixed which then creates the foam. The foam then expands in a few seconds to fill the cavity surface.  Depending on the kind of sprayed-in foam insulation used, closed-cell or open-cell, the foam expands between forty and 100 times its size upon application. Because of the highest R-value on the market, around R-6.2 per inch, closed cell foam is the best type of insulation, although it is the most expensive.

Popular Installation Methods
There are typically three different ways of installing insulation:

Batts
Most commonly, insulation batts are either mineral wool or fiberglass, and sometimes cotton.

Because batts cover a lot of real estate, they are ideal for attics in these ways:
-Large area with minimal obstructions and plenty of headspace for the installer to move around.
-Little to no insulation already installed
-Joists are in place and spaced out evenly.

Blown-In
This is also known as loose-fill, which comes in tiny cubes packaged in big bags, and requires a blowing machine to fill in empty spaces. Cotton, fiberglass, and mineral wool can all work as loose-fill material, but the best choice to use is cellulose.
This type of insulation is best used for filling in small tight voids around piping, wires, or framing.

Spray
The spray can is the ultimate home of foam insulation.

Why Insulate your house?
There are numerous reasons why you should insulate your property. Heating and cooling account for 50 to 70% of the energy used within the common American home. Inadequate insulation and air leakage are leading causes of power waste in most houses. It is important to understand what insulation is and is not able to do for a home. Insulation slows the ability of heat to move between two places, such as the warm inside of the house in winter to the cold outside, or between the air-conditioned space in your home and an unconditioned garage or basement. Insulation maintains the desired heat in your home during cold months and also prevents unwanted heat from entering during warmer months. However, most insulation does not prevent air from entering or leaving your home through small cracks or gaps. Only spray foam insulation (or rigid foam boards properly sealed to a surface) is designed to insulate and seal to air, although compacted bulk insulation may also have some ability to slow air leaks. Because air can circulate well even in the smallest spaces, your energy bills may not drop as much as expected if you insulate without an airtight. It is also important to seal air leaks and use a vapor barrier on the insulation, if applicable, to prevent condensation and moisture build-up on the insulation itself. Also, it's good to consider adding insulation before buying a new heating or air conditioning system. Spending money on insulation can afford the purchase of a smaller, less expensive heating system and can keep enough summer heat out of the house so you can reconsider the need for an active cooling system.

Insulation:
-Saves money and our country’s confined power resources
-Makes your own home more comfy via helping to keep a uniform temperature throughout the residence, and
-Makes walls, ceilings, and flooring warmer in the winter and cooler in the summertime.

The quantity of energy you preserve will rely upon numerous factors: your local climate; the size, form, and construction of your home; the living habits of your family; the type and efficiency of the heating and cooling systems you have; and the fuel you use. Once the energy savings have been paid for, the set up cost and energy conserved is cash stored – and saving energy will be even more essential as utility fees go up.

Did you know that one of the single most crucial and cost-effective energy-saving building materials in a home is your insulation for your attic, walls and windows? The wrong amount of insulation can cause some of the other energy-efficient components found in your home to perform much less efficiently. Insulation can help provide monthly savings on your heating and cooling payments by keeping cool air out during the winter months and warm air in for the duration of winter months.
